One of our brewers' favorites, this is an off-beat and hoppy take on wheat beer, with a weirdly delicious range of tropical and citrus hop flavors
overlaying the fruity base of the traditionally fermented German-style
hefeweizen. The malt body stands up to aggressive late-kettle hopping and dry hopping. Sip and savor something a little different.

TWISTED GOURD

The year before the Civil War struck the Commonwealth, a pumpkin blight affected crops throughout Central Virginia, turning the affected gourds into “the bleached resem’blance of twisted skulls”, according to a historical reference. The rotting pumpkin fermented untouched in the fields until devoured by livestock who“roamed then the countryside mad with delirium.”It was known as the Year of the Twisted Gourd.

IMPERIAL SATAN'S PONY

One of Virginia's longest-running beers has undergone a rebuild to create a unique, high-end drinking experience. Classic Satan's Pony has been doubled up—twice the malt, twice the hops—and then aged for two months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels. Still smooth, still easy going, but now one hell of a ride.

Big wheat, big hop. Often left in the shadows when it comes to hoppy American beers, we’ve turned the spotlight on the beauty of malted red and white wheat for our end-of-the-year DIPA. Three pounds per barrel of the country’s best hops don’t hurt either.
